Yesterday, my Dad was talking to my brothers and I about materialism and why we should choose to be content with what we already have. My dad said that today a lot of people and companies/businesses push the ideas of getting and receiving a lot of things. Yet, getting and receiving too many things causes us to not appreciate or be content with what we have. Having too many things does not make us happy or bring about true happiness. We often become discontent with what we previously own and look to new things to purchase to make us happy. True happiness comes from Jesus, not from materialistic things. He is the one who is supposed to make us happy. When we encourage materialistic behavior, we push the idea of Jesus making us happy away. Perhaps we should stop getting a lot of things and learn to be content.
