Encouraging and Building Up

Hello Reader,

In 1 Thessalonians 5:11 the Bible says, “Wherefore comfort yourselves together, and edify one another” (KJV). In our family devotions this was our theme scripture. To make this scripture more relatable, my dad got some legos and had each of my siblings and I build a tower.

Then, my dad swapped our towers and had my brothers each break each other’s legos. While explaining to us, that the lego towers are like life. The Bible says to comfort and edify one another. This means that even though other people break your “tower” retaliating, and breaking theirs won’t do any good. In fact, it’s against what God wants you to do.

But, if you choose to build up and encourage that person, instead of tearing them down. That person will see that and be surprised. They might even maybe want what you have. If that person shows that kindness to someone else, that person might in turn want the same thing. The cycle repeats itself. When you build up and encourage someone instead of tearing them down, you will be spreading kindness, directly and also indirectly.
